Listen to the note

What significance does fear have if we are living in a simulation? If someone believed in the reality of the simulation, why would they fear anything, and why wouldn't they start behaving completely irresponsibly instead?

It's important to remember that even if we are in a simulation, the reality we experience feels completely real to us as long as we are here. Things that have been done cannot be undone, time cannot be turned back, and the same life cannot be started anew.

If we act foolishly or wickedly here, we have to bear the consequences here as well, and those consequences are as real as anything else in the reality we experience here.

Of course, we can naïvely think that nothing matters in a simulation and that we can do whatever we want, and if things go badly for us, we can always escape to the true reality, Arkhe, through death experienced here.

But as we noted earlier, meaning in this life arises from the fact that we have chosen to come into this reality for some particular reason. We have done this knowing that there are others like us in this reality, each of whom has made the same choice, each for their own reason, of course.

So if we start behaving fearlessly as if nothing matters because we are just in a simulation, we are actually betraying the purpose for which we came here. And if we even harm each other, we may prevent each other from fulfilling our personal purposes for which we came here.

We must also not forget that our existence in this simulated reality likely has some cost in Arkhe as well. Access to the simulation may have cost us something, and even if it hasn't, the time we spend here is time not otherwise available to us in Arkhe.

So if we waste our lives here, we are throwing away that time and any potential other costs in Arkhe, whatever they may be.

Nonetheless, we did not come here to be afraid. We came here to live, and if we fear, we cannot truly live.

Fearlessness does not mean irresponsibility. Responsibility stems from meaningfulness, purpose, and love. We treat each other well because we want to be well and thus each pursue our own, and perhaps even a shared, purpose as best as we can.

Fearlessness means daring to live, and specifically daring to live responsibly. Courage is a love affair with the unknown. Courage is taking and carrying responsibility.

Do not fear, but live. When you stop being afraid, your old self dies, and you are born again into this life. Remember to die before you die.
